The class of 1962 at SCHS (State College High School [of Iowa] was the first class to travel, by two charter buses, all the way to Washington D.C. for a senior trip in May 1962. There were only 45 students in the class of '62, like other small schools, senior trips were a venerated tradition. That's H.R. Gross in the front center, naturally a member of the House of Reps (HR) from Iowa. The trip was mostly paid by annual fund-raising Chili Suppers with a show starting in 7th grade.
